STELLEST Lenses

New Stellest lenses can slow down Myopic progression in children by up to 67%.

Introducing Stellest Lenses

Blurred distance vision worsens as children develop, but there could be long-term eye health consequences and when a child starts becoming myopic it will gradually get worse until the child finishes growth.

Did you know that more than 80%* of your child’s learning is done through their vision?

Myopic or short-sighted children may struggle to see the board in class and good vision is essential to learn well, but also, to feel comfortable with others, to thrive day after day at school, with friends and family.

Stellest Lenses are one of the ways Benjamin Opticians recommends to help slow down Myopic progression.

What is Myopia?

Myopia, or short-sightedness is most often caused by an eye that’s too long, where the distance between the cornea and the retina is too great.

Someone who’s myopic has difficulty seeing things far away because the image is formed in front of the retina. However, s/he sees well close-up. The more a person is myopic, the closer they need to get to an object to see it clearly.

Myopia is usually corrected with spectacle lenses.  It generally gets worse as the child gets older, but it can be slowed down.

The Myopia crisis

Myopia today represents a global health crisis, with five billion people, or half of the world’s population, expected to be myopic by 2050.

This is not due to inherited Myopia.  The problem has arisen through changes in children’s lifestyle – using digital devices close-up and less time spent outdoors.  The pandemic has worsened this crisis.

Myopia can progress rapidly in children and may lead to sight-threatening eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, retinal detachment and macular degeneration later in life.

When detected early, myopia control solutions can help in slowing down its progression in children, reducing such risks and ensuring a better quality of life in later years.

Stellest lenses – the smart solution

The Stellest™ lens have two ingeniously complimentary parts, which together are a powerful solution to your child’s myopia.

The single vision zone in the lens carries the child’s prescription and corrects the vision.  A constellation of concentric rings carries light rays to create a volume of non-focussed light in front of the retina.  This slows down the elongation of the eye as the child grows and keeps the myopic progression in check.

This pioneering technology is the culmination of more than 30 years of academic studies, product design, rigorous research efforts, and collaborating with the top research institutes and myopia experts.
