Benjamin's see in 3DBenjamin’s, the Skipton-based opticians, have set their sights high, offering patients a revolutionary 3D screening process which can help in the early detection of eye problems. This new equipment called OCT 3D is unique in the Craven area and will now be offered to patients as part of their eye examinations.

‘OCT’ – which stands for Ocular Coherence Tomography – is a highly advanced screening process not available in Skipton until now. A regular eye test may have included a photograph of the back of the eye but OCT takes this a stage further by using a painless light beam, a little like ultrasound, to see below the surface of the back of your eyes. Combining the more common photograph with a 3D OCT scan, helps the experts at Benjamin’s with early diagnosis of any underlying sight problems such as glaucoma, age related macular degeneration, retinal detachment and diabetic retinopathy:

“At Benjamin’s we have always been keen to invest in the most up to date equipment and offer the best service to our patients. OCT represents a whole new level of screening using this new world-leading technology and the benefits for our patients are clear to see”, says Director of Benjamin’s, Liz Ellis. “OCT looks under the surface of the back of our patients’ eyes and creates a 3D model on a computer screen. That detailed picture helps our optometrists diagnose potential problems at a very early stage. We are extremely proud to be instrumental in setting a new gold standard of eye care in Craven and recommend OCT to all our patients as part of their regular eye examination”.

OCT screening is now fully up and running and the team at Benjamin’s are keen to give people in Craven the opportunity to see the benefits. OCT is particularly good at detecting problems in patients most at risk – people with health issues, the over forties and those with a family history of eye problems. Anyone concerned about their eyesight can call into the Newmarket Street practice and book an appointment for a small charge in addition to the regular eye test which may be free through the NHS.

Commenting on Benjamin’s reputation, Liz adds, “Building on over sixty years of eye care excellence in Craven, new optical technology such as OCT, plays an important part in providing our patients with the best possible eye care. Benjamin’s offers a wide choice of contact lenses, lenses and frames and takes pride in maintaining the high standard of professional service and care our patients have come to expect.”
